Trainings for 2023-2024:

Strategies for Challenging Behaviors:

Could you use some help with difficult behaviors in the classroom? If so, come to this training where participants will have a chance to discuss the frustrating behaviors they face in their classroom, and explore techniques and resources for supporting social emotional development and addressing challenging behaviors.

Preventing Power Struggles with Preschoolers:

We all want to be in control of our own lives. But think from a child’s point of view. Children usually have very few opportunities to make choices about what they do and when they do it. They’re told when to get up, what to wear, what to eat and when to eat it, where to go and what to do when they get there. Introducing choice into a young child’s life can be a powerful tool to promote improved behavior in your classroom. Come learn the five steps to using the choice making strategy and discover how easily you can embed choice-making opportunities into your classroom and short-circuit power struggles with your preschoolers.

Medication Administration:

In this important training, participants learn about NC Child Care Rules and best practices addressing medication administration in child care. Topics covered include: reasons medications are given in child care; types of medication typically given in child care; procedures for receiving, storing, documenting, and disposing of medication; the six rights of medication administration; and common medication errors and rule violations, how to prevent them from happening, and how to document errors if they occur.

FLIP-It!® An Intervention Strategy for Addressing Challenging Behaviors:

Come learn how to FLIP your kids instead of flipping your lid in this two part CEU! FLIP IT® is a strategy anyone can use to address a challenging behavior. It is a simple, kind, strength-based, commonsense and effective four step process embodied in the FLIP IT mnemonic: F - Feelings, L - Limits, I - Inquiries, and P - Prompts. FLIP IT transforms best practice into a strategy that is easy to remember, applicable in a variety of challenging situations and portable. FLIP IT may not be rocket science, but it is brain development, and an effective strategy all teachers should know how to use.

Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (ITS SIDS):

This training meets the Division of Child Development and Early Education health and safety requirements. This workshop gives child care providers an overview of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, identifies SIDS risk factors, and describes ways to reduce the risk of SIDS in child care. Target Audience-directors, infant and toddler teachers, and family child care providers.

Playground Safety:

As an early childhood professional, you are always supervising the children in your care. This two part training addresses playground safety hazards, playground supervision, maintenance and general upkeep of the outdoor learning environment, and age and developmentally appropriate playground materials and equipment. Attend to make sure your outdoor play area a safe and appropriate learning environment.

Suspension/Expulsion: What’s Happening?:

Come explore this important topic as it relates to young children. This training is designed to look into culturally and developmentally age-appropriate behaviors and for challenging behaviors, implement researched based strategies/techniques to eliminate and/or reduce the suspension/expulsion of children.

Observation and Recording Tools to Plan Effective Lesson Plans for Infants and Toddlers:

If you need help with lesson planning, this one is for you. This training will discuss educational tools such as checklists, frequency counts, and participation charts and how to incorporate recorded information about occurrence of specific behaviors or skills writing activities and/or needed materials on lesson plans for individualized goal plan.  Scenarios will be presented for participants to practice writing effective lesson plan content.
