YOUTH PROGRAMS

Support Our Students (SOS)

Support Our Students (SOS) is an after-school program for children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The program provides an opportunity to get help with homework or projects, work on computers, play games, go on field trips, and make new friends.

Funding for the SOS Program is provided by the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Teen Outreach Program (TOP)

Teen Outreach (TOP) is a program for teens in 6th - 12th grades. Teens meet once a week and participate in group activities. These activities include discussion of topics important to them, field trips, recreational activities, computer classes, and service learning projects. Teens have completed service-learning projects at the Partnership’s Support Our Students After-school program, the domestic abuse shelter, local child care facilities, and the local nursing home. Teen Outreach allows teens to learn how to make healthy decisions about their lives, learn more about themselves and others, and to use their ideas and energy to impact their community in a positive way.

Can We Talk?
"Can We Talk?" is a four-session workshop for parents of 4th - 9th graders. It focuses on helping families talk about self-esteem, sexuality and peer pressure. Parents have the opportunity to learn about and share ideas for beginning and continuing conversations with their children about these tough issues. One of the key elements of "Can We Talk?" is helping parents identify family values, and then to communicate those values effectively to their children. Participants receive a free Family Activity Workbook and are eligible for door prizes and other incentives. This workshop is offered at no cost to participants, and includes dinner and childcare.
