Disaster Preparation—Plan Ahead

Is your family prepared for emergencies such as ice storms, snow storms, hurricanes, power outages, H1N1 influenza or pandemic flu?

Stock up on food supplies. You may need enough food and water for two weeks or longer. Have plenty of ready-to-eat food for your family, including baby food and formula, canned food, bottled water, bread, peanut butter, and pet food.

Stock up on home supplies such as diapers, garbage bags, medicines for fever (ibuprofen and acetaminophen), vitamins, first aid supplies, flashlight and batteries.

Help prevent flu infection and the spread of germs. Get the annual flu shot and the H1N1 vaccine.  Wash hands frequently. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Avoid contact with sick people. Stay home if you are not well. Contact your doctor if you think you may have the flu. Avoid touching wildlife.  For more information, contact the Caswell County Health Department at 694-4129 to receive the pamphlet “Pandemic Flu, What You Need To Do!” For information about the availability and location of shelters during a disaster contact Caswell County Emergency Services at 694-5177.
