Upcoming “Parents Matter” Program
_ Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
February 21, 28 March
6, 13, 20
Location: Rainbow Educational Child Care Center - 527 Fire Tower Road,Yanceyville
The Parents Matter! Program (PMP) encourages parents to talk to their children about adolescent health issues. Parents have the power to positively shape their children’s health behaviors, but their voices often compete with messages sent by the media, peers, and society. This program, designed for parents and guardians of pre-teens and teenagers, helps parents improve their skills and increase their comfort level when talking to their children about pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and HIV/AIDS. The PMP provides opportunities for parents to build positive parenting skills, improve parent-child communication, and strengthen relationships with their children.
The PMP is presented in five weekly sessions (lasting 2 hours per session) to groups of 12-15 participants. All sessions are free. Child care and dinner will be provided at no cost to registered participants and children. Parents/Guardians that participate in the program will receive an incentive award.
Completed registration forms must be received by 5:00 pm on February 14, 2012
